How much does it cost?
The price of our courses range from $450 for a Karting One Day program through to $3,000 for our Two Day Advanced Formula program, so we have courses available to suit all budgets.

What kind of cars do you use?
Our karts are CRG Race karts using TKM race motors with speeds capable of 120 kmph. Our formula racecars are authentic Formula Renault 1600 racers, which offer performance of 1-100 kmph in 5 seconds and top speeds of approximately 190 kmph. Our equipment represents the very technology and is superior to all other comparable racing schools.

Do I need any previous experience?
No previous experience is necessary, however for our Formula Car courses you will need some experience with a standard transmission.

Can my kids take a course?
We accept children starting at 12 years of age for our karting school. We accept students in our Formula Car Schools from 14 years of age, with a minimum height restriction of 5’0” and some experience with a standard transmission.

Is it safe?
With over twenty five years of race instruction experience, Chief Instructor Allen Berg has never had an accident resulting in chassis damage, much less driver injury, on his watch. All on-track activities will be under his direct supervision. Furthermore, by using the latest Carbon Fiber chassis technology in our racecars, compared to tube frame construction of all other schools (1960’s technology), our racecars are the safest available. We also employ FIA approved HJC helmets and SABELT racewear. Sabelt is an official supplier to the Ferrari F-1 team, if Sabelt are good enough for Ferrari it is good enough for us.

Will I fit into these racecars?
Our racecars are surprisingly roomy and can accommodate students just about any size.

How is your school different than the others?
In the Formula Car Schools, class size is limited to four drivers per instructor, with radio communication between the instructors and drivers at all times. Karting schools operate with six karts per instructor, once again including constant radio communication with the instructors. There will be sufficient laps during the day to tire you out - you will be ready to climb out of the cockpit by the time you are through!

Am I getting value for money?
Most definitely! Our courses are competitive with all Formula Car courses offered throughout North America, as well with as other driving schools that are available locally. Our one and two day programs also include catered lunch and in all of our programs, you will be lapping on your own by the end of the course.

Where are you located?
We are located on site at Race City Speedway and at the adjacent Varsity Chrysler Speed Park kart track. Race City is in the Southeast quadrant of the city, just off Deerfoot Trail, approximately twenty minutes from downtown Calgary and just thirty minutes from the international airport. Race City is the closest full time operational racetrack to a major city center anywhere in North America. Calgary is well served by all major hotel chains and there are two hotels within ten minutes of the track.

What should I wear?
Since we provide helmets, balaclavas, race suits, gloves for our Formula Car programs, as well as neck braces and rib protectors for our karting programs, all you need are some snug flat soled shoes, with socks. Wear a t-shirt and short pants underneath your race suit. Students are of course welcome to bring their own helmet and driving equipment, provided it is Snell and FIA compliant.

What if it rains?
Our Formula Car courses operate rain or shine, unless we consider the conditions unsafe. For our kart courses, if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will give you a rain check to reschedule.

Can I get a racing license after I take your course?
We are officially recognized by ASN Canada FIA, the National Sanctioning body for all Canadian Autosport. All our graduates are qualified to apply for their basic road racing and karting licenses.

Is there any passing allowed?
Our courses allow for passing in designated zones on the racetrack. For karting graduates interested in racing, we offer Arrive and Drive racing programs, in conjunction with the Calgary Kart Racing Club.

Can I bring a guest to watch?
You are certainly welcome to bring along the family to watch or a personal guest to share in the experience with you. If possible, we will even recommend some of the best viewing areas for you. The only condition is that all guests and spectators must follow the recommendations of ABRS personnel at all times.

Do you offer courses in the winter?
Through our alliance with the La Guacima Circuit in San Jose, Costa Rica, we offer two and three day Formula Car courses in January and February, at similar pricing to our courses in Calgary. This is the only reputable Formula Car Racing School operated anywhere in the Western Hemisphere outside the US and Canada. Courses are available in both English and Spanish market today. Space is extremely limited so be sure to book early.

What happens if I crash?
Students are responsible for accident damage up to $2,500 per incident in any of our half, one or two day formula car programs. Crash damage liability is limited to $5,000 per incident for our formula car lapping sessions. Karting program crash damage is limited to $250 per incident and $1,500 for our arrive and drive kart race programs. A moderately priced crash damage policy is available for those drivers who are interested.

What can I take home with me?
We provide you with an individual photo alongside your racecar. We also offer a fully edited DVD taken from your on board camera, as well as a printout of your lap times. The data acquisitions system can provide a speed graph comparing yourself to the best lap on the track as set by Allen Berg, for an additional fee.

I have taken a school before / have previous racing experience. Can I go straight into the Arrive and Drive Racing or Formula Car Lapping Days?
Once you have shown evidence that you have previous experience, it will be up to the discretion of ABRS staff to determine your qualifications to step straight into these advanced programs. You may be required to take an ABRS half or full day course.
