Three-Day SCCA Racing School
in Laguna Seca
Qualifies You for SCCA Licensing
Designed for Drivers of All Skill Levels
Three Days of Quality Track Time
Trusted SCCA Racing School Helping Drivers Earn a Road Racing Competition License
Allen Berg Racing Schools runs an SCCA-accredited three-day formula car racing school at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, California. Graduates qualify to apply for an SCCA Novice Permit, the credential that opens entry to Sports Car Club of America race weekends.
What Three Days of Structured Training Gives You
An SCCA Novice Permit is the credential that opens entry to Sports Car Club of America race weekends, and three days of accredited instruction are the route to it. Across those days, a coach reads your data, watches your line, and corrects the habits you arrive with. Drivers who train first walk into their opening race weekends knowing where their limits sit and how to use them.
What This SCCA-Accredited
Racing School Includes
You will apply all the skills developed over three days of intensive training that will culminate in fully exploring the limits of our Formula race cars.
ABRS starts with the fundamentals and has the ability to guide a serious driver through all of the advanced techniques used at the top levels of professional racing.
Your Open-Wheel Race Car
You drive a Tatuus Renault Formula 1600, built in Italy by specialist racing constructors Tatuus, with a full carbon fiber monocoque chassis, a Renault 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, and a five-speed sequential gearbox. The car, the trailer, the prep, and the tech inspection are all ours, so there is nothing to rent and no race car of your own required. You arrive, get fitted, and drive.
Personalized Coaching
Instruction adapts to you. Your coach works on whatever is costing you speed, so the two of you spend the three days on your weaknesses rather than a fixed syllabus.
Classroom Instruction on Core Skills and Racecraft
Topics covered include vehicle dynamics, vehicle controls, the fundamentals of race driving, flags and safety regulations, and passing rules. Classroom instruction alternates with on-track sessions across all three days, so every point gets applied the same day you learn it.
Video and Data Debriefing
Every car carries an AIM onboard data acquisition computer and GoPro video. Your coach and a race engineer read both with you between sessions, while the lap is still fresh in your mind, so you see your own driving against your own numbers.
Safety Gear Provided On-Site
A driver's suit, helmet, and gloves are issued on arrival, along with the car, fuel, and all onboard data and video equipment. You are welcome to use your own safety gear if it is Snell- and FIA-compliant. Bring closed-toed shoes and long sleeves.
An Accredited School, So the Days Count
SCCA-accredited schools meet a reviewed curriculum and rigorous safety standards, and that accreditation is what allows three days here to count toward your license.
How This Racing School Leads to a Full Competition License
Graduates qualify to apply for an SCCA Novice Permit — the novice license stage for new drivers — valid for two years with SCCA membership, and three successful SCCA regional race weekends convert it into a Full Competition License. There is a faster route, since drivers can attend this school and our Two-Day Advanced program to qualify to apply for the Full Competition License directly.

Three Days of Quality Track Time
Day 3 is almost entirely open lapping on the road course, where most students find their quickest laps, with the cars running on Hankook racing slicks.
How to Enroll into Our Racing School
STEP 01
Reserve Your Seat
Check the schedule, select a date, and complete your booking online. You can also contact us, and we will help determine whether the three-day program is the right fit. Each program runs a limited number of cars, and dates fill up throughout the season, so plan early if you have a licensing deadline.
STEP 02
Arrive and Get Fitted
Students arrive at 7:45 AM on Day 1 to select driving apparel. Safety gear is provided on-site. Trackside work covers the formula car and its controls, track reconnaissance in a van, an explanation of on-track exercises, fitting each driver to a race car, and afternoon on-track driving sessions.
STEP 03
Three Full Days of Instruction and Track Time
Day 1 runs formula car lapping sessions behind instructors, alternating with classroom sessions. Days 2 and 3 move to instructor-led passing sessions and open lapping, with the standard rising each full day and a 45-minute lunch break scheduled.
STEP 04
Video and Data Review Between Sessions
Every break between open lapping runs is a debrief, so corrections reach the next set of laps.
STEP 05
