Trusted Racing School Helping Drivers Earn a Novice Permit
Allen Berg Racing Schools runs a two-day race car driving school at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, California, for drivers of all levels, from first-time drivers to experienced racers. Students are coached one-to-two by competitive racers. Upon completion, successful graduates hold the qualifications to apply for an SCCA Novice Road Racing License.
Why Seat Time in Your Own Car Does Not Make You Quicker
Laps in your own car build confidence, not technique. Nobody reads your data, nobody watches your line, and the habits you arrive with get faster instead of better. A formula car rewards a completely different technique from the one you use on the road, and finding that on your own costs a season of weekends. Two days of structured high-speed training in a controlled environment gets you there directly.
What This Race Car Driving School Includes
Our premier program is a combination of our one-day and lapping/advanced programs, giving you comprehensive insight into professional race driving. We provide thorough classroom theory, advanced driving techniques, and meticulous instruction, which ultimately results in your driving our formula race cars at their limits.
During this course, we extensively analyze your driving performance with you, further improving and fine-tuning your skills on the track.
At the end of this program, drivers have developed an in-depth understanding of race car dynamics and an aptitude for driving. Many of our two-day grads with prior racing experience have gone on to immediate success in various forms of racing.
Successful graduates of this program have the qualifications to apply for a Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Novice Road Racing License.
Allen Berg Racing Schools now offers a full range of SCCA race license accreditation. From Novice to full race licensing, please contact us for further details.
A Carbon Fiber Formula Race Car
State-of-the-art carbon fiber race cars with wings, racing tires, and purpose-built open-wheel technology. We supply the vehicle and everything that goes with it, so there is nothing to rent and no need for your own car. You arrive, get fitted, and drive.
Personalized Coaching
Personal instruction from professional racers who are still competing. Your coach mentors you one-on-one through every session, watches your video, and builds the day around what will make you quicker. Instructor credentials decide the quality of driver training more than any other single factor.
Classroom Theory That Applies the Same Day
Vehicle controls, vehicle dynamics, cornering techniques, flags, safety procedures, and passing rules. Classroom instruction alternates with track sessions across both days, so every concept gets driven the same day you learn it.
Lead Follow Sessions and Open Lapping
Day one begins with lead-follow sessions behind a professional racer, so you see the racing line driven properly before you find it yourself. Day two closes with open lapping, where the car gets driven at its limits.
GoPro Video Debriefing
Every car carries onboard video and a data acquisition system. Coaches and race engineers analyze both with you between lapping sessions. Video analysis at this level is standard in professional motorsports and rarely found in race car driving schools.
Safety Gear Provided On Site
A driver's suit, helmet, and gloves are issued on arrival, along with the car, fuel, and all onboard data and video equipment. You are welcome to use your own equipment if it is Snell and FIA compliant. Bring closed-toed shoes.
How This Driving School Leads to a Competition License
Graduates qualify to apply for an SCCA Novice Permit, valid for two years with SCCA membership. Within that window, three successful SCCA regional race weekends convert it into a Full Competition License. Contact us and we will walk you through the process.

How to Enroll into Our Racing School
STEP 01
Reserve Your Seat
Check the schedule, select a date, and complete your booking online, or contact us and we will work out whether the two-day program is the right fit before you commit. Each program runs a limited number of cars and dates fill through the season, so plan early if you are working around a specific weekend.
STEP 02
Arrive and Get Fitted
Students arrive at 7:45 AM on day one and select driving apparel. Safety gear is provided on site. Trackside work covers the formula car and its controls, track reconnaissance in the van, an explanation of the on-track exercises, and fitting each driver to a racecar.
STEP 03
Two Full Days of Instruction and Track Time
Classroom theory alternates with formula car lapping sessions across both days, with a lunch break scheduled each day. Day one runs lead-follow sessions behind instructors. Day two moves to an instructor-led passing session and open lapping at your own pace.
STEP 04
Video Review Between Sessions
Coaches analyze your onboard video with you at every break between runs. Coaches take notes at corners around the circuit and bring firsthand feedback back to you, so corrections get applied on the next set of laps.
STEP 05
Apply for Your SCCA License
Successful graduates hold the qualifications to apply for an SCCA Novice Road Racing License. Applying requires SCCA membership, which you can acquire online, and the permit is valid for two years. Contact us, and our team will assist with the process.
Formula Car Two-Day
